Introduction To: Metabolism On Fire

One afternoon, I watched a few minutes of a TV doctor who explained that the human beings are "herbivores" and to lose weight we should eat almost nothing but carbohydrates. A few minutes later, a couple appeared on Oprah, insisting that the only way to lose weight was to drastically limit carbohydrates and eat almost all protein.

You know how it goes. One year, cholesterol is B-A-D. The next year, we learn that the body makes cholesterol, so it must be g-o-o-d.Eggs are killers. Nope, a couple of eggs a day are healthy.Take Phen-Fen and Redux for optimal weight loss. Only later do we discover that it's KILLING people. Literally.

What are we to do? Who do we believe?

The truth is that you have the world's greatest healer available to you at all times. A source that knows you intimately, and knows exactly what you need to do to have the body of your dreams, to be radiantly healthy, to be filled with energy and vitality, to love life, to laugh at problems, to create a glorious, successful life so that you wake up in the morning celebrating and rejoicing.

That healer is your very own body!

One day during the 2001 holidays, I suddenly realized that I felt really terrible from all the sugary junk I had eaten. The "sugar messages" from my body were ... sick/unhappy/unwell.

I wondered why I act in a way that is clearly NOT in my own best interests. What is that all about, anyway?

If you think about it, you must agree that you get the same signals from your body, too. You know when you have eaten too much, you know when you have eaten tons of sugar or junk, you know when your body wants to get out of that chair and move around a little.

All we have to do is learn to listen and respond to the messages we receive. Your body will tell you exactly what you need to know and do, if you only pay attention. When I Power Breathe my body sends me happy messages, signals that say "more, more, more".

My usual breathing feels confined to the top half of my chest. After a few minutes of Power Breathing, I can feel the air all the way down in my stomach. Whenever I do this, my body practically purrs.The bottom line: there is one – and only one – way to know if the information in this book is true or not.
